Home - Travel stories - Lampang - Introduction

Lampang is the third largest city in the north of Thailand. It is the capital of the province with the same name.

The city is located in the Wang valley, this river flows through the center of town. Lampang is located about 600 km north of Bangkok.

Lampang is easily accessible. Trains depart daily from Bangkok to the north, these all stop in Lampang, the journey time is approximately 10 hours. Also many buses depart to Lampang, from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, ... Lampang has an airport and there are daily flights from Bangkok, among others. The city is situated along the highway to the north, so it is also easy to reach Lampang by car; 7 or 8 hours from Bangkok, 1 to 1.5 hours from Chiang Mai.

We have been in Lampang several times, for the first time in 1987, but we do not know much about that visit anymore. Our last visit was in March 2012.

The coordinates are 18°17'31"N 99°30'16"E.
