Khon Kaen is a major city in the north-east of Thailand. The city is an important center for education, government and transportation.
The Mithrapap Road, the main highway from Bangkok to the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge over the Mekong at Nong Khai, runs through the city. Khon Kaen is therefore easy to reach by car from Bangkok, via Nakhon Ratchasima, about 6 hours on good highways. The railway line from Bangkok to Nong Khai also runs through Khon Kaen, several trains depart daily. The city has an airport, but that is little used, there are flights from Bangkok and from Chiang Mai.
Our last visit was in 1997.

When we write about a place, we write about what we saw and did there, and what we think about it; no more and no less.
