Pia was born there, as were all her brothers and sisters. The majority of Pia's family lives in the neighborhood. And the first 15 times we have gone together to Thailand we were also living there.
We lived along Soi Onnut (a soi is off a main road), in the house of Pia's parents, about 16 km "outside Bangkok." Soi Onnut runs from Sukhumvit Road all the way to Chachoengsao. In 1987 Soi Onnut was a dual carriageway, but now it is largely a six-lane highway for several years. In Latkrabang the name was changed into Thanon Latkrabang. We also lived no longer "outside Bangkok."
For us it was a second, or perhaps first home. The house was not along the road, but along and half above a klong, close to Wat Soong, the local temple. Everything happened outside, near or above the water, eating caring for children, washing clothes, washing the dog,. . . . .
When we write about a place, we write about what we saw and did there, and what we think about it; no more and no less.
