Chiang Rai is a city in the north of Thailand. It is the capital of the aqualy named province, also the most northern province of Thailand.

The town lies in the valley of the river Mae Kok, which is north of the town. Chiang Rai is situated about 840 km north of Bangkok.

Chiang Rai is easy to reach. Chiang Rai has no train station. There are daily buses from Bangkok to Chiang Rai, the journey takes about 14 hours, also from Chiang Mai buses depart daily, the trip takes about 2.5 hours. Every day there are planes from Bangkok. By car from Bangkok on Highway 1 takes 10 to 12 hours.

We have been 2 time in Chiang Rai, in March 2010 and March 2011.

The coordinates are 19°54'34"N en 99°49'39"E.
