Home - Travel stories - Nan - Introduction

Nan is a town in the far north of Thailand. It is also the capital of the equally named province. The distance to Bangkok is almost 700 kilometers.

Nan is easy to reach by car. From Bangkok you drive in about 10 hours on good four-lane roads to Nan. Some parts go by mountain ranges, there are a lot of bends. There are daily buses from Bangkok to Nan, the journey takes 10 to 13 hours. Also from Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Phrae there are buses to Nan. Nan has no train station. Daily scheduled flights between Bangkok and Nan are maintained.

The coordinates are 18°47'37"N 100°43'46"E.

We were for the first time in Nan in 1997. Our second visit was in March 2010.

When we write about a place, we write about what we saw and did there, and what we think about it; no more and no less.
This is not a travelguide (we are not complete), and it is neither an advice to visit or not to visit a place. Other sites can give you that information.
Our opinion about a hotel or restaurant is not ment to be a (positive or negative) review, you can find that information on other sites.
It is our description of a situation on a certain moment, influenced by our mood.
