Kanchanaburi is the capital of the equally named province.
The city is located about 140 km west of Bangkok.
Kanchanaburi is easily accessible, about 2 hours by bus
or by car on busy but good highways.
There is also a rail link,
the trains leave from the small Bangkok Noi Train Station.
Kanchanaburi is a fairly quiet town, with tourists especially known for the bridge over the River Kwai and the construction of the Death Railway in World War II. The city is also a good base for the great natural beauty of the surroundings, waterfalls, rivers, mountains, caves, lakes, ....
