The first visit was long ago, in 1987.
We had no intentions to go to Kachanaburi but after a visit to Nakhon Pathom and
the Rose Garden (all by bus) we ended up there.
After some searching we found the River Kwai Hotel, where we slept overnight. We have been back there more often.
In the evening we had dinner at (or in?) one of the floating restaurants along the Kwai Noi. There are now very few restaurants, where they went, we do not know.
The next day, before we went back to Bangkok, we wanted to visit the Erawan waterfall. We went there with a local, old, rickety bus, on a narrow road with steep slopes. We did not see much from the waterfall, the last bus was going back half an hour after we arrived, so we had hardly any time to look around.
But we have returned a few years later. It's a beautiful waterfall, which consists of a number of levels. During the week you can enjoy the waterfall and the nature, during the weekend the Thai day trippers.
When we write about a place, we write about what we saw and did there, and what we think about it; no more and no less.
This is not a travelguide (we are not complete), and it is neither an advice to visit or not to visit a place. Other sites can give you that information.
Our opinion about a hotel or restaurant is not ment to be a (positive or negative) review, you can find that information on other sites.
It is our description of a situation on a certain moment, influenced by our mood.
