Kanchanaburi has disco rafts, but more on that later.
About 25 years ago, in 1989, we have been with the entire family on a very different kind
With two pickups full of people, food, pots and pans we wentto Kanchanaburi in the morning. Buying more food On the market and drive on, an hour or two along the river in the mountains.
The air conditioning was disconnected otherwise the cars could not get up to the mountains anymore. Then into the forest, to the bank of the river, where a few rafts were floating on the river. One of the rafts was for us, a large area in front, partly with a roof, and two toilets in the back.
All people and all the food went into the raft, and then a small boat was towing us upstream. By the nightfall the raft was tied to a tree on the shore, a bit further were even more rafts, and the boat went away.
We spent the whole evening and night sitting on the raft, eating, drinking, sleeping.
It's very very dark, lots of noises, a raft that moves through the currents.
The next morning the boat came back, and then further up the river to a cave and a temple. Then back to the car, and back to Bangkok.
Nice weekend, very lovely on that river, all the stars that you see, the cool night. Special.
When we write about a place, we write about what we saw and did there, and what we think about it; no more and no less.
