Lampang is the third largest city in the northern part of Thailand. It is the capital of Lampang Province.

The city is located in the Wang River valley, the river flows through the center of the city. Lampang is located approximately 600 kilometers north of Bangkok.

It's easy to reach Lampang. Daily trains to Chiang Mai leave Bangkok's railway station, they all stop in Lampang, the trip takes takes about 10 hours. Lampang can be reached by bus from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, ... Daily flights from Bangkok to Lampang airport are available. The city is a major highway hub, located next to the highway from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. By car from Bangkok takes 7 to 8 hours, from Chiang Mai 1 to 1,5 hour.

We have visited Lampang a few times. The first time was in 1987, we don't remember much about that visit. Our last visit was in march 2011.
