Home - Journeys - Portugal - Lisbon 2019 - Thursday, July 25, 2019

Tom wakes up with a headache, no idea what cuases it, but it is very annoying. Showering helps, the headache diminishes. The breakfast is fine at Hotel Soho Boutique Canalejas in Salamanca, the coffee as well. And the headache is almost gone.

At a quarter past nine we leave for Évora in Portugal.
After 10 minutes, Pia notices that she has forgotten one of her glasses. We drive back to the hotel, and luckily Pia finds her glasses on the dressing table in the room where we slept.

At a quarter to 10 we are on our way again, first 200 km on a good but boring highway. And then 75 km on a two-lane road, much nicer to drive, and a much nicer landscape. After that it is a piece of highway again to the Portuguese border again, and in Portugal a very good and very quiet highway.

At a quarter past one (quarter past two Dutch time) we are at the Hotel Dom Fernando. We can go straight to the room, which is simple but good enough, but again no kettle.
We walk to the center of Évora, it is warm but not too hot. We look at some restaurants and we decide to eat at Balcão 47 where we sit outside on the terrace. We order presunto and pasteis the bacalhao.
Then we go back to the hotel, Pia swims, Tom sleeps.

At half past seven we go back to the city to have something to eat. We decide to eat at Repas, it is very busy on the terrace but we get a table.
It is fresh on the terrace and very windy; the weather has changed. We order snails and grilled sardines and the food tastes very good.
Next to us sit a Dutch couple who sleep in the same hotel as we. They arrived in Portugal today and are going on a 18-day tour by car through Portugal. They are nice people from Rotterdam who live in the neighborhood where Tom was born and grew up.
During the meal a peacock comes walking by and asks for food.
If we get the bill we are shocked, we only have to pay 22 euros.
