Our acquaintances, Teng and Arjan, recently bought an apartment near Lisbon.
They go there for two weeks in July and August.
And Teng asked if we don't want to go.
We have thought about it for a while, and we are going there, by car.
That means four or five days out and just as many days back. Maybe we will take longer, then we can also look around on the way.
Arjan has arranged an apartment for us for EUR 40 per night.
We have made plans and booked hotels for the trip. On the way back we stay a few days in Porto and in Santiago de Compostela. We have taken into account the black Saturdays in France. All in all we will be on the road for more than three weeks.
During the journey we discover that we have to organize the journey differently.
Every day more than 400 km of driving is very tiring, and therefore not too nice. Also, there is actually no time to view a place.
For future journeys, and we hope that they will come, we must take the following into account:
* driving a maximum of 400 km per day,
* prepare better so that we know what we can or want to see from a place,
* stay in one place for at least two nights more often or always,
* drive more often on inland roads instead of highways.

We tell what we have done and experienced during a trip and we also tell what we think about it; no more and no less.
This is not a travel guide, nor is it advice to visit a place or not.
There are other sites for that.
Our opinion about places where we have eaten, drunk or slept is not intended as a (positive or negative) assessment, there are other sites for that.
It is our view of the situation at a certain moment and that view is influenced by our mood, the weather and many other factors.
