Mae Hong Son is the capital of the province of the same name in northwestern Thailand. It is a small quiet town located in a mountainous area quite close to Myanmar. You will find quite a lot of influences from Myanmar, and from the peoples that live in the mountains around Mae Hong Son.

Mae Hong Son is located about 880 km north of Bangkok, and 250 km northwest of Chiang Mai.
The easiest way to get there is by plane. By road, by bus or by private transport, it is also possible, but the road is narrow, sometimes very steep and there are an incredible amount of curves.

Driving into Mae Hong Son, no matter if you are from the south or the north, it seems like a quiet city. The buildings are all low, you see nothing that has more than four floors.
Mae Hong Son is also small, we think you can reach everything on foot.

There is a small night market around the lake in the middle of Mae Hong Son, and the atmosphere there is also very relaxed, it is quiet, and you can eat well.
We have a drink at a bar, Coffee Me, at the night market.

There are western tourists in Mae Hong Son, but we feel it is a Thai city.

We were there on Friday, November 24, 2017, on Saturday, November 25, 2017 and on Sunday, November 26, 2017. On Monday, November 27, 2017 we left.

We tell what we have done and experienced during a trip and we also tell what we think about it; no more and no less.

This is not a travel guide, nor is it advice to visit a place or not. There are other sites for that.
Our opinion about places where we have eaten, drunk or slept is not intended as a (positive or negative) assessment, there are other sites for that.
It is our view of the situation at a certain moment and that view is influenced by our mood, the weather and many other factors.
