Pai is a town (and an amphoe (district)) in Mae Hong Son province in the mountainous north of Thailand.
You can get there by following road 1095 from
Mae Hong Son or from Chiang Mai.
From Chiang Mai it is about 150 kilometers, from Mae Hong Son too.
Buses run to Pai, but many people want to go to Pai on a moped or motorcycle. The reason is the road. That road is quite well maintained, but very curvy and with many slopes.
The view is very nice, and if you sit between the mountains you can enjoy the green forests.
We came to Pai from Mae Hong Son, on the only road between those two places.
Because of the roadside signs, we knew we were approaching Pai, and also that we were in Pai at some point.
Most notable were many signs from hotels and resorts.
After a while we were really in a town, at first sight not so special, and we didn't see
After a maximum of 10 minutes we were also out of Pai again.
After we found a hotel we went for a walk through Pai.
First about a market, along the side of Thanon Saeng Thong, where a lot of fruit and vegetables are sold. A typical Thai market, where everyone (not us) drove on the moped.
We walked on to what would be the tourist center of Pai, Thanon Rat Damrong.
A busy street with many restaurants, many shops, and many non-Thai tourists.
At the end of the street, by the Pai River, it is even busier.
We knew we were in Thailand, but it could also have been in Spain or the Greek islands.
Not our thing.

We tell what we have done and experienced during a trip and we also tell what we think about it; no more and no less.
This is not a travel guide, nor is it advice to visit a place or not.
There are other sites for that.
Our opinion about places where we have eaten, drunk or slept is not intended as a (positive or negative) assessment, there are other sites for that.
It is our view of the situation at a certain moment and that view is influenced by our mood, the weather and many other factors.
