Ao Manao is a beach, not in the immediate vicinity of Hua Hin, but 100 km further south in Prachuap Khiri Khan. The coordinates are between 11°47'01.23"N 99°48'21.81"E and 11°46'04.11"N 99°47'44.05"E. But we are talking here about it because we always come here from Hua Hin.
Ao Manao belongs to an air base, but that's no problem. Previously, as a foreigner, you had register, but in recent years you can just go on. The road is well signposted. Do not worry if you arrive at a runway, you can cross it.
10 minutes drive from the entrance of the airbase is the road along the beach, there are a few restaurants, restrooms, showers, and ample parking lots. Along the beach are trees, beneath them chairs and tables, usual on a Thai beach. For the seats, you pay about 10 baht, not expensive. You can also order food and drinks.
The beach itself lies along a bay, crescent-shaped, a few kilometers long, on both sides with a few rocky hills. In the middle of the bay are a few small islands. The form explains the name of the beach, Manao means lime, also round in shape. The beach is wide, and it is very flat, you have to walk very far before getting into deeper water.
It is never very busy, maybe that's not so in the weekend, but we have only been there during weekdays. Sometimes there are a few buses with school children, it is crowded for a short while, but it is nice to see how children in Thailand have fun on the beach.
We are happy here, it's quiet, beautiful, cool under the trees.
Our last visit was in 2013.
When we write about a place, we write about what we saw and did there, and what we think about it; no more and no less.
This is not a travelguide (we are not complete), and it is neither an advice to visit or not to visit a place. Other sites can give you that information.
Our opinion about a hotel or restaurant is not ment to be a (positive or negative) review, you can find that information on other sites.
It is our description of a situation on a certain moment, influenced by our mood.
